Why are the primer pockets so tight in Nosler Brass?

The primer pockets are intentionally built to SAAMI minimum specification for a couple of different reasons. First being, it helps improve the life of the brass as the primer pocket gradually stretches or grows after each firing and second, SAAMI has minimum/maximum primer pocket dimension specifications but they also stipulate minimum/maximum primer dimension specifications which may not be well-suited for each other. For example, a large rifle primer can measure .2105” - .2130” according to SAAMI spec and a large rifle primer pocket can measure .2085” - .2100” in diameter to fall into spec. So, if you are trying to fit a .2130” primer into a .2085” primer pocket, you’ll experience some resistance in getting it seated properly since the primer is .0045” larger than the primer pocket.
